Continental Wood Sculpture of Christ
1 in stock
A masterfully carved figure of Christ in fine grained fruitwood, late 16th/early 17th century, probably French or Italian. The Savior’s face is rendered with a simultaneous expression of divine abandon and ineffable compassion. The drapery subtly clings to the form of the naked body and is reminiscent of the drapery of Ancient Greek and Roman statuary.
Large and corporeal, this Renaissance carved wood statue is a collector’s dream come true despite the few condition problems.
